It's official - 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan is a part of Telugu superstar Prabhas' next big film, the highly-anticipated Project K. Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame is directing the upcoming film being produced under the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner, which also stars Deepika Padukone as the female lead, with iconic Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Disha Patani cast in key roles. The announcement of Kamal Haasan in Project K has come after quite a lot of speculation on social media over the past few days and his inclusion in the big-budget sci-fi film will no doubt add to the excitement among fans.
Although no details about Kamal Haasan's role in Project K are known as yet, it has been reported that the Tamil superstar will likely be seen as the antagonist. If indeed he is playing the villain in the Prabhas-starrer, it will be the first time in 15 years that he will be seen in a role with negative shades after he appeared as Christian Fletcher, a rogue ex-CIA agent-turned-mercenary, in Dasavathaaram (2008). With Project K scheduled to open in cinemas in a grand manner on January 12, 2024, on the festive occasion of Sankranthi, Kamal's role is expected to be a short one but will be significant no doubt, with the film also announced to be releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
Project K is one of the several big projects in Kamal Haasan's lineup starting with Indian 2 under Shankar's direction, which is expected to hit the screen either towards the end of the year or in early 2024. He is also joining hands with ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam after their Nayakan (1987) in the tentatively titled KH 234 featuring music by Oscar winner A. R. Rahman and expectations are huge for their big venture being jointly produced by Red Giant Movies, Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), and Madras Talkies banners. Kamal Haasan is also set to join hands with filmmakers H. Vinoth and Pa. Ranjith for separate projects. Project K, on the other hand, at present is one of the biggest films in production, with a futuristic set erected at Ramoji Film City, in Hyderabad, and will include music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
