Mari Selvaraj is a popular director who previously made films Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan. The next big film of the director is titled Maamannan with Udhayanidhi Stalin and ‘Vaigai Puyal’ Vadivelu in important roles. The film also has Keerthy Suresh playing the female lead while Fahad Faasil is playing a negative character. The cast of the film and the director sat down for an exclusive interview with the National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan the editor-in-chief of Galatta Plus. They shared some interesting details about the film. During the interview, the director said pain is what drives him to write a story.

The director Mari Selvaraj further revealed that Maamannan's story was there in his mind for a long time and he did not write it. He then said “When Udhayanidhi Stalin sir asked I said 'there is a story but you will not like it surely' and I said about it. He heard the story and immediately agreed to do it.” The director then said that nostalgic memories give him the pain to make write stories that he makes into movies. He further stated that after joining Director Ram he got to know that the humiliation he faced can be changed into an art form. The director further said that he thought many people will not accept this story but he wanted to take it somehow. He then said, “I have told him (Udhayanidhi Stalin) about the real-life incident, 15 days after the release of Pariyerum Perumal, an incident happened and that is the core of the film. It happened in a day. Even after becoming a director, that pain followed and I kept thinking about how I could make it into a story and let the audience know about it. Then I thought Udhayanidhi Stalin could be the right person for this." He said he narrated just the fact to the actor first and said he will develop a draft of the beginning and end. The director also said that he will change it into a big one that could be bigger than his maturity, if the actor agreed and he said ok immediately.
As the critic Baradwaj Rangan asked if he can reveal the incident, The director Mari Selvaraj refused saying he cannot reveal the incident. This revealed that the core of Maamannan is based on a real-life incident that the director faced. Here’s the full interview:
