Two-time National Award-winning actor Dhanush's Vaathi has crossed ₹118 crores in worldwide gross, the film's production banner Sithara Entertainments announced on Friday evening, March 17. Directed by hit Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri of Tholi Prema and Rang De fame, the period action drama film has been produced by Naga Vamsi in association with Sai Soujanya's Fortune Four Cinemas banner and was released in Tamil Nadu by Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio. Vaathi, which was also released in Telugu under the title Sir, has turned out to be Dhanush's career-best at the box office and continues to go strong even after it premiered on Netflix earlier this week.

Vaathi has surpassed the collections of Dhanush's previous two blockbusters, Asuran (2019) and Thiruchitrambalam (2022), and has also cemented a big place for the actor among the Telugu-speaking audiences. Set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the film saw the leading Tamil actor playing the role of a teacher who takes it upon himself to get the students of an intermediate college institution get first-class distinction in order to thwart the plans of Samuthirakani, who owns private institutions and adopts several government colleges. Vaathi and Sir struck a chord with audiences in Tamil and in Telugu and has been also receiving a big response on OTT as well.

Dhanush is paired in Vaathi with Malayalam sensation Samyuktha, who as well plays the role of a teacher, with Sumanth, Ken Karunas, P. Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Hyper Aadi, Sha Ra, Aadukalam Naren, Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi, Praveena, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Naga Mahesh, Praveena cast in key roles, while Bharathiraja makes a surprise cameo appearance. The film is yet another successful collaboration between Dhanush and composer G. V. Prakash Kumar after their previous ventures Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, Asuran, and Maaran.
