Amidst huge expectations, Ponniyin Selvan released in theatres yesterday (September 30) and the film has opened to a favourable reception from the masses and critics, alike. Ponniyin Selvan features Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles and is directed by Mani Ratnam. This is the ace filmmaker's most ambitious and dream project and it has finally seen the light of day after several years of wait. With the film opening to a positive response and being celebrated by the audiences across the world, Chiyaan Vikram shared a new video message on his official Twitter page, thanking everyone for the overwhelming reception.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people for making Ponniyin Selvan a grand success already. Talking in the video, he said, "This feels good. My heartiest thanks to the enormous feedback and love that is being showered on Ponniyin Selvan and my character, Aditha Karikalan. I have done a lot of films and I consider each of my film very special and proud. I wish all of my characters to be something that I can be proud of and Ponniyin Selvan is one such. You people are celebrating the film and are owning it in the theatres. It is heartfelt to see everyone celebrating the movie. There is no bigger happiness than this for any actor. Many thanks to director Mani Ratnam sir and the whole team for making Ponniyin Selvan what it is now".

This video from Chiyaan Vikram has turned viral on social media and has been doing good rounds since this afternoon. The second part of Ponniyin Selvan is slated for release in the summer of 2023 and further details are awaited. Ponniyin Selvan is based on the classic Tamil novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The screenplay for the film has been worked by Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel, and Jeyamohan.
