Maidaan is an upcoming Hindi biographical sports film written and directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of Badhai Ho fame and produced under the banners of Zee Studios and Bayview Projects, the latter being headed by Boney Kapoor. Based on the golden era of Indian football which took place between 1952–1962, the film stars Ajay Devgn as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim along with Priyamani, Rudranil Ghosh and Gajraj Rao. The music for the film has been composed by Isaipuyal A. R. Rahman.

After much anticipation, we have now got an update on the film and its a big one. Ajay Devgn himself announced that his much awaited film will hit the screens on theatres on 17 February 2023. The actor who recently won his third National Award for best actor for his performance in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, took to his official Twitter handle to share the new release date. He wrote, "Experience the true story of an unknown hero, Syed Abdul Rahim who brought glory to India. #Maidaan releasing on 17th February, 2023. " Check it out: 

The sports drama was previously set for release in June this year but was postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maidaan tackles the true story of Syed Abdul Rahim who served as a coach and manager of the Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963. 

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ajay Devgn has a slew of movies in his kitty. His upcoming films Thank God and Drishyam 2 are in their post production phase and will be released soon. He is currently working on the film Bholaa which is the official Hindi remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj's 2019 smash hit Tamil action thriller film Kaithi.
