James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water will see the filmmaker reunite with actress Kate Winslet after Titanic and the upcoming epic sci-fi action film has her playing the role of a Na’vi warrior. New images of her character Ronal have debuted in Empire Magazine and the Academy Award-winning actress has described her character in the film as a "deeply loyal and a fearless leader." Winslet will be seen sharing screen space alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver among others in the long-awaited Avatar sequel, which will open in theatres worldwide on December 16.

Speaking about her character in Avatar 2, Winslet told Empire magazine, "She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins her people and fights for what she holds most dear: her family and their home." Disney's official synopsis for Avatar: The Way of Water is as follows: "Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' begins to tell the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they endure."

For her role in Avatar 2, Winslet underwent extensive training to hold her breath underwater and broke Tom Cruise's record for holding her breath for the longest time for a film. Cruise held his breath underwater for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation for six minutes, while Winslet did the same for seven minutes and 14 seconds for Avatar: The Way of Water. Talking about the experience, she told Entertainment Tonight in 2020, "It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again. That came at the end of four weeks worth of quite intense training and it was in the dive tank, it was in the training tank. But I loved it." As for her reunion with Cameron after their global phenomenon Titanic in 1997, Winslet told Empire, "Jim and I are both totally different people now to who we were 26 years ago. He is calmer, and I am definitely more hyperactive now!"
