Padma Sri Awardee Thota Tharani gave an exclusive interview to Galatta Media recently. During the interview, he shared some exciting details and insights into the making of sets for Ponniyin Selvan. When asked about the making of the throne of the Chola Empire. The national award-winning art director said “I think I would have done 3-4 drawings. From that one sketch was selected and we did modifications to that and began the work.” When asked about the material that was used for the throne, he said “In the chair, I had some freedom. That is why. We have the story but, nobody has seen the real throne. So in that matter, there is a little freedom and liberty. Even in the set, there is liberty. Even the castle we don't know where it is. So, we could use our imagination, as it was a huge historical empire. If we think about it, in old films, they would have shown the ceiling a bit low. They would have shown that it was not that high. But, if we show it like that it will look like Lilliput. So, We raised the height and scale. The CG persons also worked very well. This is not just about art direction, but all others have also enhanced it." Watch the full interview here:
