Lyricist ilango krishnan about ponniyin selvan devaralan aattam song - Tamil Movie Cinema News

Ponniyin Selvan is a two-part film that is called the Magnum Opus by the iconic director Mani Ratnam. The film has a huge star cast and a strong technical team. The film has music by Oscar Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is set to releases on April 28 in theatres in multiple languages. A majority of songs from the film have lyrics penned by Ilango Krishannan.

Ahead of the theatrical release of Ponniyin Selvan: 2, the lyricist Ilango Krishnan gave an exclusive Interview to Galatta Media. When asked for which song he received praises from Mani Ratnam. The lyricist said “Yes, for many songs and many lines, he has praised me. But for Devaralan Aattam, we did not know what to do. He (Mani Ratnam) said the part of Devaralan Aattam must be made into a song. I said 'ok, I will write some verses'. He read it but how could he do thin into a song? He felt if we do a song just with this it won’t be interesting. Then we went to A.R. Rahman sir. There Rahman sir played a video. It was about Monkey Chants, an art form still present in Bali and was cited in the epic Ramayana. He said this was how he wants it. I asked him how can we do it sir, we have no tune. Then he said I will give you a rhythm pattern and I did it with that rhythm pattern."

"After that song was over that night. Mani sir was very happy. While Rahman sir was composing itself, he was praising about it. And I think he thought at that moment that I was enough for this project. Because, in the morning all three of us did not know what we are going to do. When I asked for a tune, A.R. Rahman said he will do a tune somehow and Mani Ratnam said however it is he will make this song sir. And I did not know how to do it. We were blank but Rahman sir did that magic. Then Chola Chola song was completed in 1 hour." said the lyricist Ilango Krishnan. When asked if he could judge Mani Ratnam's though with his expressions, he said "we can't judge what he is thinking with facial expressions. We cannot say if he is thinking it's good or bad only when he speaks we will know. Even, A.R. Rahman sir, both are composed people” said the lyricist. Watch full interview here:
