Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies, the film is the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, which went on to collect over 500 crores at the worldwide box office. With PS: 2 set for a massive opening across the globe, the film's USA premiere has crossed the $500,000 mark and is counting, Lyca Productions announced late Thursday evening (IST).

Fans, who have watched Mani Ratnam's latest magnum opus in the US, have been sharing and expressing their views and opinions about the film, with a majority of the feedback being strongly positive. Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies will be looking to go past the numbers recorded by PS: 1 with the sequel, which is picking up right after the events in the first installment that ended on a massive cliffhanger note. Rahman, Ponniyin Selvan: 2 sees the lead stars reprising their roles starting with 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Kundavai, Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poonguzhali, Sobhita Dhulipala as Vaanathi and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini. The sequel also includes an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Prabhu, R. Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Kishore and Radhakrishnan Parthiban.
