Veteran music director, lyricist, and director Gangai Amaran's wife, Manimegalai, passed away during the night hours of Sunday, May 9. According to reports, Manimegalai Gangai Amaran was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai following a brief illness and she breathed her last around 11 PM on May 9. Manimegalai was 69 years old when she breathed her last. Manimegalai is survived by her husband, Gangai Amaran, and two sons - Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaran. The news has sent shockwaves in the film industry and several notable film personalities have shared their condolence messages on social media.

Actress Radikaa Sarathkumar tweeted, "Our condolences to @vp_offl and @Premgiamaren and to Gangai Amaran for their huge loss. I know your mom as a very special special and lovely soul, may she rest in peace,". Similarly, popular actress and television anchor Ramya Subramaniam also mourned the demise of Manimegalai Gangai Amaran through a tweet that read, "My heartfelt condolences to @vp_offl @Premgiamaren for the passing away of their mother who was a kind hearted and very special person to everyone around her . I am praying for the family to face the days ahead and for aunty’s soul to rest in peace".
