Legendary Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has left for his home in New York after injuring his leg off-set in Oklahoma during the filming of iconic filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which also has in its star cast Leonardo DiCaprio. Although it has been reported that the two-time Academy Award-winning actor is injured, the extent of its seriousness is currently unknown. The injury happened at De Niro's own time and not while on the set, according to reports. It is further stated that De Niro flew back to New York on Thursday and will see a doctor on Friday. It is unknown when De Niro will be returning to the sets of Killers of the Flower Moon considering he was reportedly planning to take time off for a few weeks from production.

Based on David Grann’s bestselling non-fiction book about newly-formed Bureau of Investigation, Killers of the Flower Moon's story revolves around the agency trying to solve the serial murder of members of the Osage Nation. The highly-ambitious upcoming film, which had been in pre-production for quite some time, also stars Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Pat Healy and Lily Gladstone, with Tulsa World earlier this week reporting that the streets of Fairfax in Oklahoma were covered with dirt to make it look like 1919. Vintage cars too were used during filming and De Niro was photographed in a pin-striped suit matching his fedora.

"We are thrilled to finally start production on ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ in Oklahoma," Scorsese released a statement last month while kicking off the shoot. He added, "To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people. … We’re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten." An Apple Original Films production, Killers of the Flower Moon, which has a budget of around $200 million, has been shooting in Bartlesville, Pawhuska and Osage County, Oklahoma, with the first-look photo of DiCaprio and Gladstone being unveiled earlier on Monday.
