Rajni, Kamal, Karunanidhi bag State awards

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi distributed the 2007 and 2008 State film awards at the Madras University Centenary hall in Chennai on Tuesday evening. Tamil super star Rajnikanth received the best actor award for 2007 for his role in Sivaji and Kamal Hassan for 2008 for his performance in Dasavathaaram.

During his speech, Karunanidhi said that language was only an instrument to understand people, not a cause for spewing hatred towards others. "There are no differences between people belonging to different languages, and all people belonged to the same ‘kulam’ of mankind" he explained. The Chief Minister was awarded the best dialogue writer award by Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for Uliyin Osai.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan said they were proud to have the opportunity to give the CM an award. Those who came to get their awards included maestro Ilayaraja, poets Vaali, Vairamuthu, actors Suriya and Jyotika, Sathyaraj, Prakashraj, Vadivelu, Vivek, Namitha, Mumtaj and others.
