Bakkiyaraj Kannan received tremendous appreciation in his directorial debut, Remo, for its execution and entertainment value, which struck a chord with both the youngsters and family audiences. The director will be looking to hit the bullseye with his Sulthan starring Karthi, which has been billed to be a fun-filled action romance entertainer. Produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu's Dream Warrior Pictures banner, the film will incidentally mark the Tamil cinema debut of South Indian sensation Rashmika Mandanna.

Sulthan's shoot had wrapped up earlier this month, with the makers intent on releasing it only in theatres once the COVID-19 situation improves. Although an official word is awaited on the release, it is believed the plan is to bring the film alongside 'Thalapathy' Vijay's much-awaited Master, which according to those in the trade is being speculated to come out as a Pongal 2021 treat. As of now, post-production works on the film are progressing at full-swing, with the makers intent on leaving no stone unturned in making the film a perfect entertainer, which they have stated is one of their biggest production ventures to date. Sulthan will include music by the Vivek-Mervin duo, with cinematography by Kaithi and Master fame Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Ruben. The film will also veteran actor Napoleon playing the role of Karthi's father.
