Leading actress Kangana Ranaut's bodyguard Kumar Hegde has been arrested by a team of Mumbai police from his native village of Heggadahalli in Mandya district in Karnataka after a cheating case filed against him. Police officials said that a complaint had been registered against the accused by a woman in the context of marriage. The team from Mumbai had sought the assistance of the local police and produced Hegde before the court in K. R. Pet after which he was escorted away.

According to the FIR, Kumar Hegde had fled to Heggadahalli after he promised to marry the woman in June last year and suggested a live-in relationship with her, which she agreed to under the hope that they would get married. The woman had told the police that they both knew each other for 8 years, while adding that he forced her into a physical relationship with him despite her reluctance. The complainant also claimed that Hegde had borrowed Rs. 50,000 from her under the context that his mother had fallen sick and was the reason why he had to leave for his hometown.

The victim further said that she had gotten to know that Hegde was getting married to someone else after she had reached out to his mother, who told her to stay away from her son and not force him into marriage. Hegde has been booked under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), and 420 (cheating) of the IPC by the Mumbai Police.
