Ashiesh Roy had announced in May on social media that he was ill and had been put on dialysis, while putting forward a request for financial assistance. He wrote on Facebook, "I am in the ICU… Very ill. Dialysis", followed by another post that read, "Need your urgent money for dialysis (sic)." In an interview earlier this year, Roy stated that he had been admitted to hospital a few times over the last two years, but had run out of money. He also lamented about the shortage of funds and lack of work, which became worse due to the nationwide lockdown. "I don’t have money. I had Rs 2 lakh which I gave to the hospital because within two days, the bill that was given to me amounted to that much. Right now, I don’t have a single penny. People are coming forward to help me, they are calling up and telling me, let’s see what happens. Because of the pandemic I am kept in a special ward which is costly. My dialysis happens on some other floor and it goes on for 4 hours. There are medicines, injections which are costly," Ashiesh said.

Following Ashiesh Roy’s social media posts, reputed Hindi director Hansal Mehta put forward a request to film bodies to intervene and provide the ailing actor with financial assistance. Mehta tweeted, "Actor Ashish Roy (Bond) is seriously ill, on dialysis and in the ICU. He has appealed for financial help on FB. I’m doing all I can to help. Can industry associations also help the ailing actor?"

Ashiesh Roy is best known for his appearances on popular television shows like Remix, Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Sasural Simar Ka, Mere Angne Mein and Aarambh, while also starring in films like Home Delivery and Raja Natwarlal. He was also a voice actor and had dubbed for a number of Hollywood films. Roy's most notable dubbing works include voicing late Academy Award-winning actor Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight. Some of his other Hindi voice acting performances include Superman Returns where he voiced Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor, Michael Shannon's General Zod in Man of Steel and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy
