This edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is being played for the first time ever behind closed doors and without any spectators, is finally heating up! After some close encounters, the past couple of games have been seeing strong performances and being one-sided! Today's match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, happened at Abu Dhabi! Mumbai were coming off a good win while Rajasthan were looking to win to get back their mojo! An unchanged Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat against RR, who made three changes to their team! Quinton de Kock kicked off the MI innings with a boundary as they scored 10 runs off the very first over. After a quiet 2nd over, the third over again went for 15 runs with Rohit Sharma hitting the first 6 of the match! Debutante Kartik Tyagi hustled the batsmen with pace and bounce but his wayward lines saw Sharma picking him up for another 6 but Tyagi had the last laugh as he got de Kock to slice to Buttler. MI had gotten to a very good score of 57/1 in the Powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav and Sharma began to crank up things with a good partnership!
Shreyas Gopal came into bowl the 10th over and had immediate success with wickets off successive balls. Rohit Sharma went out for 35 while Ishan Kishan miscued his very first ball to be out for a Golden Duck. Krunal Pandya was promoted ahead of his brother Hardik to maintain the left-right combination at the crease but he was not able to replicate his heroics from the previous match. Archer returned in the 14th over to take out Krunal, bringing out Hardik to join Yadav. The free stroking Yadav brought up his 50 off 33 balls in the 16th over. Both Hardik and Yadav got going despite Yadav surviving a concussion scare and helped MI finish on a massive 193/4, leaving RR a steep target of 194 to win! Jos Buttler and the youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal walked out to open the innings and disaster struck off the very second ball as Jaiswal edged through to QDK, off Trent Boult! Smith walked in and hit a boundary but got out almost immediately. The dependable Sanju Samson, who has been in very good form, missed out today and got out for a duck, leaving RR at 12/3, in 3 overs!
Mahipal Lomror and Buttler tried to stabilise the innings and bring in a sense of calm. However, Rahul Chahar had other plans as he got Lomror to an incredible catch in the 9th over. However, Buttler seemed to be playing on a different pitch and kept despatching boundaries at will. He brought up his fifty with a huge 6 in the 11th over and kept alive the hopes of RR fans! Sharma brought back Pattinson and had Buttler out for 70, in the 14th over to a sensational catch by Pollard. There was still a little hope as Tewatia was at the crease along with Tom Curran and both of them can hit the long ball! But the RR had seemed to leave too much for long as they needed 92 runs from the last 6 overs however, nothing is impossible in the IPL. Pollard came back to bowl and took out Curran, bringing in the dynamic Archer to the crease. Though Bumrah took out both Tewatia and Gopal in the 16th over, Archer had some fun swinging his bat around and got to 24 off just 11 deliveries before Bumrah took him out too. During the course of his spell, Bumrah got his first ever four-for in T20s and also notched up the best figures for any bowler in IPL 2020, so far! Pattinson came back to remove the last wicket in the 19th over, leaving RR all-out for 136 and handing MI a dominant 57-run win! This has put them on the top of the table and Suryakumar Yadav was deservedly adjudged the Player of the Match!
