There seems to be no letting go of the tragedies that humanity has been befalling. Though this might seem to be just another accident to those not involved, those who have been involved would definitely term it the biggest tragedy of their life. In a shocking incident earlier today, there was a fire accident at a hospital in the Bhandara region of Maharashtra and this has resulted in the loss of 10 lives, that too of newborn babies! Utterly shocking and heartwrenching!

Reports state that 10 newborn babies lost their lives after a fire broke out in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the 4-storeyed District General Hospital in the Bhandara district of Maharashtra. Bhandara is located about 900 kms from Maharashtra's captial Mumbai. Reports state that 17 newborn babies had been admitted to the SNCU of the hospital of which seven had been in the inborn ward of the unit while 10 were in the outbound ward. The seven babies in the inborn ward were luckily saved but the babies in the outbound ward could not be rushed out of the danger zone in time and are said to have succumbed to the severe smoke. Though the exact reason behind the fire is as yet unknown, a short circuit is suspected to be the culprit!

The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is said to have immediately spoken to the Health Minister Rajesh Tope and ordered a probe into this tragic incident. Reports state that nurses first noticed smoke coming from the neonatal care unit and raised an alarm, following which everybody, including the babies in the inborn ward as well as the patients in the other wards, were shifted to a safer place. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved, throught a Twitter post. Reports from the ground state that all the babies who lost their lives were just between a few days and a couple of months old. We pray for the departed souls to rest in peace and that their bereaved families find the strength to bear with their loss!
