Like him or hate him, you just cannot ignore him! Yes! We are indeed talking about one of the most powerful and most controversial men in the world! Well, if it was Vladimir Putin who came to your mind, then we have to rephrase our statement to say, a person who is called the leader of the "Free World"! Yes, now we are sure you would have got it right! We are indeed tlaking about the outgoing President of the United States of America - Donald Trump! Trump ran for re-election in the recently concluded US Presidential elections but lost to his opponent Joe Biden. However, he did not take the loss gracefully and repeatedly reiterated that the election results had been falsified and that he was the real winner. Trump even attempted to take legal recourse to get the verdict overturned but everything went in vain.
However, many of Trump's followers stormed the US Capitol building and disrupted the US Congress's attempt to certify Joe Biden's victory in the recent Presidential elections. This resulted in utter chaos and violent protests in which 4 people and a policeman lost their lives. When Donald Trump hailed all those who stormed the Capitol as patriots on Twitter, the short messaging platform banned his account for 12 hours, citing it as violation of the platform's policies. This also resulted in almost all the social media platforms banning Trump. Mark Zuckerberg announced that Trump would be banned on both Facebook and Instagram for a minimum of 2 weeks till Joe Biden assumed power, or even indefinitely as his presence on these platforms carried the risk of him inciting further violence! However, Trump was allowed to return to Twitter, if he deleted the objective tweets and did not post any further tweets which violated the platform's policies.
On returning to Twitter, Trump posted a video message telling that he wanted to focus on a peaceful transition of power but almost immediately posted a message which read, "The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!" Twitter took this as an indication that Trump would not facilitate an orderly transition of power. Trump then went on to post another tweet, wherein he mentioned that he would not be attending the inauguration ceremony of President Joe Biden, on January 20th. Twitter considered this to be another offense on Trump's part and termed it, "being received by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was not legitimate" & claimed both his tweets as being "in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy." However, upon being indefinitely banned from Twitter, reports quote Donald Trump as stating that he would start his own social media platform to address his followers. At the time of being banned, Trump had 88.7 million followers, on Twitter.
