Bidar: The case where a complaint was lodged over a school drama has taken a drastic trun after a parent and a teacher - both women - were arrested on Thursday. According to their lawyer, the absence of a judge will make sure that they will not get bail till February 4.
According to sources, ABVP activist Nilesh Rakshala had seen the video of the play online and lodged a complaint. A picture of the police questioning the children in front of school faculty had gone viral, and had garnered outrage online. The youngest of the children who were questioned is 9 years old and the inquiry had been over 2-hours-long.
Nabzunnisa (26), the mother of a class v student was arrested as her child had spoken the dialogue, "slap anybody who asks for documents with slippers!" The FIR, however, claims that the child had targeted the prime minister and made use of “foul language” against him. Head teacher of the primary school, Fareeda (52), was arrested as she had facilitated the programme. The school itself was booked under IPC sections
The management had decided to engage with its students and parents to 'dispel misunderstandings around the recently passed law'. Speaking to the Wire, Tauseef Madikeri, the CEO of Shaheen Primary and High school in Bidar, had said that the programme was focused on the concerns the Muslim community had over the law. The lawyer representing the women told The News Minute that the District and Sessions court judge in Bidar was on leave till February 4, till when they will probably not be bable to secure bail.
The Shaheen group of institutions has about 15 centres across 13 districts and had bagged the Karnataka's Rajyotsava Prashasti award for education in 2014.

In December 2019, the video of a large number of uniformed children “demolishing” a poster depicting the Babri Masjid and replacing it with a Ram temple photo amidst chants of Ram, Sita, and Hanuman had gone viral. The Chief Guests for the event were Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, DV Sadananda Gowda; Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi; and several Ministers from Karnataka including H Nagesh and Sashikala Jolle. The school itself is run by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. There has been no complaints filed or action taken in this regard though the social media had called it an attempt to radicalise Hindu children.
