A project that has been a subject of debate for many years now among fans, the film adaptation of acclaimed Tamil writer, Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Ponniyin Selvan, has raised curiosity since there were plans to make it in 2010. As the venture failed to materialize then, six-time National Award-winning director Mani Ratnam is now once again set on making the film with an elite casting. In that light, actor Vikram had recently during the promotions for his upcoming film, Kadaram Kondan, officially confirmed he will be starring in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, with filming revealed by the star to kick-start from early next year. This will be the second time the two leading giants of Tamil cinema will be coming back for a film after their Raavanan, in 2010, which was also made in Hindi under the title, Raavan

Although not much is known about Vikram’s role in Ponniyin Selvan, there have been speculations for quite some time stating the National Award-winning actor will most likely be playing the character Aditya Karikalan, who is Sundara Chola’s eldest son and also Arulmozhi Varman’s brother while also serving as the commander of the Northern troops in the story. Vikram’s inclusion in the high-profile project has been talked about for a while now after several top names started doing the rounds and his addition will no doubt be a big advantage to the film.

Apart from Vikram, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan too had earlier this year confirmed her role in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. Other big names in the contention are Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh, Amiktabh Bachchan, Mohan Babu, Amala Paul and Anushka Shetty as part of the upcoming biggie, which will have its screenplay by actor and writer, Elango Kumaravel, considering he has previous experience of adapting a number of historical novels into stage plays.
