The Tamil Nadu state government has announced the Kalaimamani Awards for 201 personalities after 8 years that includes writers, singers, dancers, musicians and actors, for their timeless contribution to culture from 2011.
Popular Tamil personalities Karthi, Vijay Sethupathi, Prabhu Deva, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Priya Mani and Santhanam are among the few awardees, who have been announced for the honor.
It was a happy evening yesterday (28/02/2019) as the TN government came out with the awardees list after eight years, even though it has to be conferred every year after the prestigious state award was halted in 2010.
Kalaimamani Awards are given by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram (literature, music and theatre) to recipients for their excellence in the field of arts and literature.
In the field of music, S.Janaki, Carnatic musicians C. Saroja and C. Lalitha popularly known as the Bombay Sisters and T.V. Gopalakrishnan were announced for the M.S. Subbalakshmi Award and will receive an amount of Rs. 1 Lakh along with a citation as per the official reports.
The recipients for Bharatanatyam include Binesh Mahadevan, Latha Rajendran, P. Muralidharan and Nivedhitha Parthasarathy.
The Balasaraswathi Award will be received by C.V. Chandrasekhar, Vaijayanthimala Bali, Mrs. and Mr. V.P. Dhananjayan.
From the film fraternity, the awardees are musicians Yuvan Shankar Raja and Vijay Antony, actors, Karthi, Vijay Sethupathi, M Sasikumar, Priyamani, Prasanna, Nalini, Srikanth, R Pandiarajan, Santhanam, Soori, Ponvannan, Thambi Ramaiah, Singamuthu and yesteryear actors includes Kanchana, Saradha and cinematographers R. Rathinavelu and Ravivarman.
Director Suresh Krissna, director Hari, producer AM Rathnam, Chitra Lakshmanan, Paravai Muniyamma, Kutty Padmini, P Pandu, Gana Ulaganathan, Gana Bala, singer Malathi, Unni Menon, lyricist Yugabharathi have also been announced to be recipients of the Kalaimamani Awards.
