Vaibhav’s Katteri was scheduled for release, earlier this year, on April 17, but the plans were scrapped after the unexpected outbreak of Coronavirus. With an uncertainty still prevailing over the reopening of theatres, it looks like the makers of Katteri are now looking for the possibilities of releasing the film directly on OTT platform, on the lines of Ponmagal Vandhal, Penguin, Cocktail, etc. Recently, there were reports that this horror comedy film will directly release on Zee 5 streaming platform soon. When we checked with our sources close to the team, they gave us a better clarity on the topic and said that the discussions are on.

The source said, “Not just Zee 5, we are also in talks with Prime Video and we are yet to lock the deal. We are talking with both the streaming platforms and nothing has been concretely finalized yet. We are willing to give out the film to OTT indeed since we are not sure when the theatres will reopen. Whenever the deal gets finalized, you can expect the official announcement. If nothing works out (with regard to OTT release), we will wait for the theatres to reopen.

So, it looks like Katteri is gearing up for its release on an OTT platform soon. Is it going to be Zee 5 or Prime Video is something we have to wait for some more time to know. Katteri is directed by Deekay of Yaamirukka Bayamey and Kavalai Vendam fame and is produced by K.E.Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green. Katteri features three female leads including Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sonam Bajwa, and Aathmika.

The film’s supporting cast includes Ponnambalam, Karunakaran, ‘Naan Kadavul’ Rajendran, Ravi Mariya, Mime Gopi, John Vijay, Lollu Sabha Manohar, and others. On the technical front, Katteri has music scored by Prasad SN, cinematography by Vignesh Vasu and editing by Praveen KL. The makers had released the first single (‘En Peru Enna Kelu’) from the film last month and it opened to a positive reception from the music lovers. Katteri’s trailer also got a favourable feedback from the audience. It can be noted that Vaibhav's another film - Lockup, directed by debutant SG Charles is also likely to release directly on Zee5 OTT platform.
