Acclaimed Tamil filmmakers Vetri Maaran and Ameer took part in the Maayavalai press meet on Sunday, November 5, where they were queried about their upcoming film, Vaadivaasal, which is yet to begin principal photography. During the event, the duo opened up on the upcoming Suriya-starrer, which is based on acclaimed Tamil writer C. S. Chellappa's novel of the same name, and had an intense glimpse released on the National Award-winning actor's birthday in 2022. In that light, Ameer shared about boarding Vaadivaasal, while Vetri Maaran explained his reason for casting him once again after Vada Chennai (2018).

Speaking at the Maayavalai press meet, Ameer said, "Our conversation was short when it came to Vaadivaasal. He asked me what I felt about Suriya. I queried him why. He asked me back whether I'll act [with him]. I told him that if he (Vetri Maaran) is okay with it, then I'm down for it. This was our conversation and how I got committed to being a part of Vaadivaasal." Vetri Maaran then chimed in saying, "He (Ameer) is playing an extremely important role. And, when I cast him in Vada Chennai to play the character Rajan, I felt like giving him a few inputs." The National Award-winning director added, "When I cast him in Vaadivaasal, I felt that he would give me many inputs about that world. I asked him for my own convenience and he agreed to act."

A test shoot for Vaadivaasal was done early last year and the film will include music composed by National Award winner G. V. Prakash Kumar, who is reuniting with Vetri Maaran after their previous collaborations Polladhavan (2007), Aadukalam (2011), Visaranai (2016), and Asuran (2019). Currently, in the pre-production stages, Vetri Maaran had back in May informed the press that the scans of the bull to be featured in the film have been sent to an animatronics team in London, who have been building a life-size robot replica. Production on Vaadivaasal is expected to kick off after Suriya wraps up filming director Siva's Kanguva and filmmaker Sudha Kongara's project. It is to be noted that Vetri Maaran has written the story of Iraivan Miga Periyavan, which marks Ameer's directorial comeback after more than a decade since his Aadhi Bhagavan (2013). Vetri Maaran is at present busy shooting the highly-anticipated Viduthalai: Part 2, which will see Soori and Vijay Sethupathi reprise their roles from Viduthalai: Part 1, which became a phenomenal box office success while also garnering rave reviews.
