Owing to the raise in the number of Covid positive cases in Tamil Nadu, the Government has reduced the theatre occupancy to 50%. Several other restrictions have also been imposed by the Government and the announcement has created a huge buzz on social media. This 50% occupancy in theatres will come into effect from April 10 (Saturday) and will continue until the end of this month. Depending on the Covid situation, the relaxations for the May month would be decided. For now, it has been decided that theatres, shopping malls, and restaurants, should function only with 50% occupancy and not more than that.

This news comes as a big blow for the makers of Dhanush's Karnan as the film is all set to be released tomorrow (April 9) in the theatres. Karnan is a film that has got huge expectations among the fans and it is touted to be an important film in Dhanush's filmography. The film's teaser and songs have hyped up the expectations and it is expected to do some solid business in the box office as well. Immediately after the announcement of the new restrictions, a section of audience doubted if Karnan will be postponed from its release. But, the makers have officially confirmed that the film will release as per the plan and there will be no changes.

Karnan's producer, Kalaippuli S Thanu took to his Twitter page to share the official statement regarding the 50% occupancy. He tweeted, "As promised #Karnan will arrive to theatres tomorrow. As per the need guidelines of our Govt #Karnan will be screened with 50% capacity in theatres along with proper safety measures. I kindly request everyone to provide your support for #Karnan". It can be noted that Thalapathy Vijay's Master released and had a run in theatres with 50% occupancy and it turned out to become the biggest hit in Vijay's career despite the restriction. If Karnan manages to impress the initial set of audience with its content, no one can stop the film from its success and the 50% occupancy might not affect the film.

The makers will be hopeful of a good reception and the pre-release buzz has been very positive. Karnan is directed by Mari Selvaraj and it is Dhanush's next release in Tamil cinema after Pattas. Karnan has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan and has popular Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan playing the female lead. Karnan is Rajisha's debut in Tamil cinema and she will be looking forward to a positive start.
