Swaralaya award for MSV

Veteran South Indian music director M.S. Viswanathan, popularly known as "Mellisai Mannar" (The King of Light Music), has been selected for the Swaralaya-Kairali-Yesudas Award 2008 for his lifetime contributions to music. Noted Bollywood singer Kavita Krishnamoorthy, four-time Filmfare Award winner, will also be presented the award.

While announcing the awards in Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala minister and Jury Chairman M.A. Baby told reporters that Viswanathan and Kavita Krishnamoorthy were selected unanimously by the jury on the basis of nominations from music lovers.

The Swaralaya Yesudas award is a prestigious award for music artists in recognition of their outstanding performances. The awards, instituted jointly by Thiruvanthapuram-based Swaralaya (an organization that promotes music) and Kairali Channel. Awards, have been given annually since 2000.

P. Jayachandran (2000), S.P. Balasubramaniam (2001), Asha Bhosle (2002), K.S. Chithra (2003), Hariharan (2004), Sonu Nigam (2005), A.R. Rahman (2006) and Shankar Mahadevan (2007) are the winners so far.
