National Award-winning Tamil actor Suriya's next big film, Kanguva, is progressing at a steady pace under hit filmmaker Siva's direction and has been announced for a 2024 release. Blockbuster producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja, who is producing the highly-ambitious venture, recently sat down with Galatta for an exclusive interview to talk about the film, while also addressing rumors and speculations that Suriya's character in the film was based on the worldwide hit game, Ghost of Tsushima. Responding to the speculations, the hit producer said, "As far as I know, it isn't anything like that. It's a full-fledged imaginary story. It has not been inspired from anything. It may include around 20 percent of historical references. We're doing this film set in the 18th century from a completely imaginary perspective. It is not inspired from anything or based on any novel."

Regarding Suriya's look in Kanguva, Gnanavel Raja stated, "The teaser is coming out next month. When you watch the teaser, you'll get an idea about his look and the film. The biggest frustration for fans right now is that we haven't shown his face yet." He added, Many are saying that we're only showing other aspects of the film. But, when he gets revealed for the first time, it will surprise everyone and give them happiness. And, that is the reason we're making them wait. Or else, we would have revealed it a long time back. We want to do it in a proper manner. It should make not only make Suriya's fans proud, but everyone, and that is the reason for the delay in bringing out the teaser."
Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game and revolves around a samurai in his quest to safeguard the Tsushima Island during the the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
