Stars to attend anti-terror campaign

In a bid to kickstart the people’s resistance campaign against terrorism in the country, Bollywood actors John Abraham, Shilpa Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, Tamil stars Vijay, Vikram, Malayalam actors Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Sreesanth will come to Kochi, Kerala├п┬┐┬╜to launch ‘Aspirations’, the Janamaitri Anti-Terrorism campaign, on Monday evening (26 January) at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.

In the campaign,├п┬┐┬╜spearheaded by the City Police and sponsored by SRK Group and Idea Mobile, the police will introduce a 24-hour dedicated anti-terror intelligence mechanism, which the city folks can use to tip off the police on any suspicious act or person. Minister for Home, Vigilance and Tourism, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate the campaign and release the anti-terrorism toll-free helpline number (96560 00100). The slogan of the campaign is “Kochiite alert – report any suspect terrorism activity.”

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has already confirmed participation. Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, Miss World first runner up Parvathy Omanakuttan and percussionist Sivamony are also expected to be among the leading celebrities.

For the last several days, the City Police has been spreading the campaign message through its New Year greeting cards to make people alert about terrorism. With this star-studded show, the campaign will be taken up in a full-fledged manner. The campaign is part of an effort by the police to refurbish its image and to reach out to the community at large.

Meanwhile,├п┬┐┬╜City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham will flag off a rally on Sunday from Vytilla Junction at 5 p.m. to create awareness against terrorism. Organized by Junior Chamber International, the rally will end at the Rajendra Maidan. Prof. M.K. Sanu will address the meeting.
