Based on Vikas Swarup’s novel 'Q and A', this British film (shot in India with Indian actors), is about a young boy from the slums of Mumbai and how he manages to win a hefty sum in a game showby virtue ofhis personal experiences. When he explains – to those who refuse to believe a slum-dweller, lacking proper education, won at an intellectual game show – how he deduced the answers from his real-life experiences, a dramatic tale unfolds. The film is rich in sub-plots which have been carefully woven together by renowned screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

Also, the film is special for every Indian, not just for its Indian connection but also because its music composer A.R. Rahman became the first Indian to win a Golden Globe; he won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score for the song ‘Jai Ho’. Credit also goes to singers Tanvi Shah and Sukhwinder Singh, who were able to grasp Rahman’s ideas exactly and deliver a song that eventually won him a Golden Globe.
