Corona Kumar was first announced by director Gokul last year during the lockdown, with talk immediately springing up that the upcoming film would be a spinoff/sequel to the 2013 blockbuster Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, which had ‘Makkal Selvan’ Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. Speculations were rife since then that Vijay Sethupathi could reprise his role as Sumaar Moonji Kumar from IDHABA if it were a sequel or appear in a cameo in case the film was going to be a spinoff. As of now, there are still rumors doing the rounds that Vijay Sethupathi would be making a cameo appearance in Corona Kumar, which is yet to be confirmed.
