American actor Joey Morgan, best known for his role in 2015’s Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, died on Sunday. He was 28. No cause has been listed as yet for his sudden demise. The popular young star also garnered praise for his performance in Max Winkler’s Flower, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse director Christopher Landon tweeted an emotional statement and said, "Joey Morgan came into my life nearly 9 years ago when I made Scouts." The heartbroken filmmaker further added, "He was quiet, funny, intelligent and thoughtful. And when the cameras rolled he was magnetic. He passed today and the news is heartbreaking. I am honored to have known him."

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Morgan, brother of actor Trevor Morgan, debuted in Landon's horror comedy and played the role of Augie Foster, one among the three Boy Scouts with Tye Sheridan and Logan Miller, who defend their town against zombies. His next big role was as a teenage computer hacker in the 2016 comedy film, Compadres, in which he shared screen space with Omar Chaparro and Eric Roberts. In 2017, he shared screen space with Zoey Deutch in the dark comedy Flower, which revolved around a group of teens who blackmail suspected pedophiles for money. The news of Morgan's death has left many in Hollywood in shock, including his Flower co-star Deutch, who posted a photo on Instagram of their time together. She wrote, "Rest in peace joey. A deeply kind, talented, special person. We love you."
