Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's next big directorial, Lal Salaam, has begun filming, Lyca Productions announced on the festive occasion of Holi on Tuesday, March 7.The blockbuster production-distribution banner also unveiled new posters showing several cricket players on a fire-lit field atop a cricket bat resembling scenes of a riot. Lal Salaam was launched in November last year in a grand manner in Chennai, which saw Lyca Productions' Chairman Subaskaran Allirajah grace the occasion, including 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, who will be appearing in a special came and will also mark the first time he will be acting under Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's direction. It is to be noted that the veteran actor had earlier worked in his second daughter Soundarya Rajinkanth's 3D animated action film, Kochadaiiyaan, which came out in 2014.

Lal Salaam is Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's fourth directorial after she made films 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary venture Cinema Veeran (2017). The upcoming film is billed to be a sports drama centered around cricket and politics as shown in the promotional material released so far and will star Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles. Academy Award-winning music director A. R. Rahman is composing the songs and the background score in Lal Salaam and there will huge expectations for him to deliver yet another memorable album.
Although not much is known about Lal Salaam or Rajinikanth's role in the film, it is being speculated that the team will make it a powerful one fans will remember. The film is set to come out in theatres later this year and is also one among the two projects Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions are collaborating on, with the other venture being the recently-announced Thalaivar 170 under Jai Bhim fame T. J. Gnanavel's direction. Lal Salaam also includes names like Lyca Productions' Head of Operations G. K. M. Tamil Kumaran, Vishnu Rangasamy for the cinematography, B. Praveen Bhaskar as the editor, Ramu Thangaraj taking care of the art direction, Sathya NJ overseeing the costume designs, while Riaz K Ahmed is the PRO and the publicity design is by Kabilan.
