After a series of successful movies under his belt, Tamil filmmaker Pa. Ranjith has come up with another announcement about his next production venture, Kuthiraivaal, under the Neelam Productions banner. Ranjith took to social media on Saturday to finally drop the big news that the upcoming psychological thriller will be hitting theatres on March 4. The film stars Kalaiyarasan, Kaala fame Anjali Patil, Sowmya Jaganmurthy, Anand Sami, and Chetan in the lead roles. Kuthiraivaal marks the directorial debut of Manoj Leonel Jahson and Shyam Sunder and is written by G. Rajesh. Check out Ranjith’s announcement below:

Said to be loosely inspired from Franz Kafka's novel The Metamorphosis, Kuthiraivaal follows Saravanan played by Kalaiyarasan, who calls himself Freud and is working as a cashier in a bank. A teaser for the film was released a while back that showed him having a dream in which he sees a horse without a tail and a sky with both the sun and moon at the same time. Upon waking up, Kalaiyarasan realizes that he now has a horse's tail attached to his back. The Kuthiraivaal teaser had generated a lot of buzz and created a lot of curiosity regarding the story of the film.

Kuthiraivaal is deemed as one of only a few Tamil films to have used the concept of magical realism. It is also the first film to be chosen and nominated for the international premiere at the Berlin Critics Film Festival. Kuthiraivaal is Pa. Ranjith's next under his Neelam Productions banner after he tasted success with Pariyerum Perumal directed by Mari Selvaraj, followed by Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu, which had Attakathi Dinesh and Kayal Anandhi in the lead roles, under Athiyan Athirai's direction and more recently Writer, directed by newcomer Franklin Jacob and featured Samuthirakani as the hero.

As for Pa. Ranjith's own directorial ventures, he recently wrapped up production on his Natchathiram Nagargirathu, which has Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan as the lead pair along with Kalaiarasan and Harikrishnan in supporting roles. The blockbuster filmmaker had also recently announced his next with National Award-winning actor Vikram and is tentatively titled Chiyaan 61 under the Studio Green banner.
