Earlier this morning (June 3) at 8.45 AM, legendary Tamil director GN Rangarajan, passed away following a brief illness. GN Rangarajan was 90 years old when he breathed his last. He is the father of director GNR Kumaravelan, who is currently one of the prominent filmmakers in Tamil cinema. GNR Kumaravelan took to his official social media pages to share the death news of his father. He posted, "My Father, my mentor , my love ... passed away today morning around 8.45 am. Need all your prayers to keep my family in strength". Several notable personalities from the film industry have shared their condolence messages on social media and it is definitely an irreplaceable loss for director GNR Kumaravelan.

GN Rangarajan is best known for directing the blockbuster hit comedy film, Kalyanaraman, which featured Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead roles. Kalyanaraman marked the directorial debut of GN Rangarajan. Later, he directed the critically acclaimed romantic drama, Meendum Kokila which starred Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead roles. Rangarajan also directed Kamal Haasan's Kadal Meengal, which was a success at the box office. Rangarajan was known for his collaborations with Kamal Haasan.

GN Rangarajan's son, GNR Kumaravelan is currently awaiting the release of his next directorial film, Sinam, which stars Arun Vijay in the lead role. The talented actor will be seen playing the role of a cop in this action drama which is fully completed and ready for release. We can expect Sinam to be released when the Covid 19 situation comes under control. Produced by Vijayakumar's Movie Slides Pvt Ltd, Sinam has music scored by Shabir and cinematography handled by Gopinath. Palak Lalwani plays the female lead, while Kaali Venkat, RNR Manohar, KSG Venkatesh, Marumalarchi Bharathi, and others would be seen in supporting roles.

Apart from Sinam, Kumaravelan has earlier directed movies like Ninaithale Inikkum (2009), Haridas, Wagah, etc.
