Leading Tamil actor Jayam Ravi will be joining hands for the second time with director Kalyan after the duo previously collaborated on the 2015 boxing drama, Bhooloham. The project tentatively titled JR 28 was launched on Friday on the occasion of Jayam Ravi's birthday and Vinayagar Chathurthi, with the venture being produced under the Screen Scene Media Entertainment Private Limited banner. Jayam Ravi will be sharing screen space with youth sensation Priya Bhavani Shankar for the first time, with the actress playing the female lead in the upcoming film, which will also have music by Sam C. JR 28 is Jayam Ravi's next big venture after the actor recently completed filming his portions in ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's ambitious magnum opus adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's Ponniyin Selvan novels under the joint collaboration of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners. Announced to come out as a two-parter, the first installment of Ponniyin Selvan will hit theatres in 2022, with several top names from across the country attached to the ventures. Likewise, Jayam Ravi is also a part of Jana Gana Mana being directed by Endrendrum Punnagai fame I. Ahmed, with a major chunk of filming already wrapped and the film currently put on hold. 

As for Priya Bhavani Shankar, JR 28 will be her next big project as she has several films in her lineup among which include Kamal Haasan's biggie Indian 2, the Silambarasan TR and Gautham Karthik-starrer Pathu Thala, Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam, SJ Suryah's Bommai, Raghava Lawrence's Rudhran, Arun Vijay's Yaanai, Ashok Selvan's Hostel and including Oh Manapenne opposite Harish Kalyan.
