One of the most vibrant heroes that Tamil cinema has ever seen, Sathyaraj is celebrating his birthday today. Rising to prominence as a charismatic, cultured villain who charmed the stripes off a tiger with his disarmingly tongue-in-cheek witty dialogues and moving on to many more versatile roles in his ever-evolving career. Still guessing?

A native of Coimbatore, he was an able adversary for Rajinikanth, matching him style for style and laugh for laugh in Mr. Bharath and sent tingling chills down Kamal Haasan’s spine in Vikram. He entered films in the capacity of a production manager, worked his way up the ladder to become a character actor then a leading hero who dominated the Tamil film industry during the 1980s.

Having acted in classics like Sinna Thambi Periya Thambi (1987), Amaidipadai, En Bommukutty Ammavuku, Nooravathu Naal, Vedham Pudhithu, Palaivana Rojakkal, Anna Nagar Mudhal Theru (1988), Sinnappadas (1989) and Nadigan (1990), Sathyaraj has acted in all the genres ranging from the dramatic to the comic. He also portrayed the title role in Periyar. More recently, he has started experiment with character roles too. His last two releases, Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam and Raja Rani are massive hits.

We wish a very happy birthday and a great year ahead.
