In a recent exclusive interview with Galatta Tamil, director Gautham Vasudev Menon reacted to the negative reviews that his latest release, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu received from YouTube reviewers and others. He requested the reviewers not to review a film with a sense of loftiness, adding that one could see a film with an open mind. Talking about it, the ace filmmaker said, "There are people who stand outside the theatres asking what didn't work in the film. When that is the case, I am not watching the film as an audience. I see it as a judge with a different point of view and mindset.

When we watch a film at our home, we sit back and watch without any judgements and sometimes, even a slow film would work well. Leave out these YouTube reviewers and others, the audiences bring one magic when they watch a film. They don't think a lot. If around 80% of the audience connect with around 5-6 scenes in the film, that itself would do the magic. But when we have a YouTube channel or a represent print media, we become a different person altogether. We become somebody else. We approach a film with loftiness and I feel that shouldn't be there.

Don't review a film saying you expected this, you expected that. Come with an open mind and say what you feel about the film without any loftiness". Despite a section of audiences having mixed opinions about the film, it has not affected the box office performance of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu and it has emerged to be a successful film. In the opening weekend, VTK collected 50.56 crores from the worldwide box office and the numbers are on a steady rise. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu Part 2 is on cards and the pre-production works for this Silambarasan TR starrer has already started.
