FICCI meet begins

India's largest and oldest apex business organisation FICCI FRAMES' prestigious convention on the business of entertainment in Asia -- FICCI Media and Entertainment Business Conclave -- began today (Wednesday) at Le Royal Meridian in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi inaugurated the event by the lighting the lamp in the presence of FICCI conclave chairman Kamal Haasan, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni, filmmaker Yash Chopra and actor Sarathkumar.

During his inaugural address, Karunanidhi said: "Tamil Nadu should become the centre of the entertainment world, the epicentre." Notably, the legendary Tamil writer spoke in English. Kamal Haasan gave his welcome address. Ambika Soni and Yash Chopra also spoke during the occasion.

The main focus of the conclave is to provide the delegates a chance to network with the media and entertainment fraternity of South India and Bollywood. It will discuss main issues like underexploitation of the international theatrical market, limited exploitation of non-theatrical revenue streams, inadequate marketing of films (especially for medium and small budget films), sub-optimal exploitation of the domestic theatrical market and steep increase in cost structure.

The conclave will conclude on November 19. South India's largest circulating English cinema magazine Galatta Cinema and its online wing Galatta.com are its media partners.
