The 67th National Film Awards ceremony took place this morning (October 25) in Delhi and the winners were handed over with their respective medals. As already known, Dhanush was declared as the winner of the National Film Award for Best Actor for his impeccable performance as Sivasaami in Vetri Maaran's directorial, Asuran. On that note, Dhanush received the National Award from Indian Vice President Shri. Venkaiah Naidu and the pictures and videos of Dhanush receiving the honour have already gone viral on social media, setting the fans in excitement.

It is indeed a proud moment for Tamil cinema to have an actor like Dhanush who excels with any given role and this will be Dhanush's second National Film Award after bagging his first award for Aadukalam back in 2011. Asuran was directed by Vetri Maaran and produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu under the banner of V Creations. Notably, Asuran also won the National Film Award for Best Tamil Film and the award was received by producer S Thanu and director Vetri Maaran. The film was based on the Tamil novel, 'Vekkai', written by Poomani and Vetri Maaran did a fine job in adapting the novel into a film.

Asuran witnessed family audiences storming into the theatres and the emotional knot in the story struck a chord with the audience. Dhanush's fantastic performance as Sivasaami elevated the film's impact to a different level. Asuran featured popular Malayalam actress Manju Warrier as the female lead and it marked her debut in Tamil cinema. The film's star cast also included Teejay Arunasalam, Ken Karunaas, Pasupathi, Aadukalam Naren, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abhirami, Balaji Sakthivel, Pawan, and others. Asuran had music composed by GV Prakash Kumar who produced a striking album.

The film opened to unanimously positive reviews and went on to become a phenomenal blockbuster at the box office. Dhanush currently has several exciting projects in his lineup including Maaran, Thiruchitrambalam, Naane Varuven, Atrangi Re, The Gray Man, and an untitled film with director Ram Kumar.
