Stay order on the OTT release of Vishal's Chakra cleared by Madras High Court
The stay order for the maintenance of the status quo of actor Vishal Krishna's Chakra on Over the Top (OTT) platforms was nullified by the Madras High Court on Wednesday, following a case filed by Trident Arts, which produced his previous film Action. A request for extending the interim order was rejected by Justice N. Sathish Kumar, who issued instructions to the Court Registry to enlist the case for hearing on Monday since Vishal and the film's director MS Anandan had filed counter-affidavits stating the claims of Trident Arts to be baseless.
Representing Vishal was his advocate Krishna Ravindran, who informed the Court that Chakra is a Vishal Film Factory (VFF) venture, while adding that its release on OTT platforms cannot be restrained based on allegations of violation of agreement executed for the film Action. He stated that the release of Chakra had been finalized and found fault with Tridents Arts of making attempts to blackmail Vishal in order to obtain interim orders.
The Court was also informed that Trident Arts pursued Vishal to act in another film under their banner to compensate for the losses incurred in theatre collections of Action, while adding that the actor-producer had agreed to do it sometime next year. Mr Ravindran in his statement said Trident Arts wanted Vishal to begin shooting immediately for a project, which caused a rift between the two parties, leading to his client getting upset. He continued that the producer was not involved in finding a resolve to the issue at hand.
Chakra's director MS Anandan also filed a counter affidavit extending support to Vishal and appealed to the Court to dismiss the case filed by Trident Arts. In addition, financier Chandraprakash Jain also filed an application continuing his support to Vishal as he had lent Rs 12 crore for the production of the film. Vishal’s Chakra, a cyber thriller, which marks the directorial debut of MS Anandan, has Shraddha Srinath, Regina Cassandra, Srushti Dange, Robo Shankar, Manobala, K. R. Vijaya among others in major supporting roles. Featuring music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film also includes cinematography by Balasubramaniem, editing by Thiyagu and stunts by Anl Arasu.
