Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru is all set for a direct OTT release on Prime Video and the film is scheduled to release on October 30. The fans were initially disappointed with the decision to release the film directly on OTT, but considering the current pandemic situation, people have slowly started to accept the reality. The fans are now excitedly waiting for the film to release and let us hope that it registers a record breaking viewership. This Suriya starrer will release in over 200 countries at the same time and it happens to be the first major big league Tamil film to skip the theatrical release.

Soorarai Pottru is directed by Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame and has music scored by GV Prakash Kumar. Sudha Kongara has managed to showcase Suriya in a different dimension in this film and the promos that have been released so far have lived up to the expectations. We are just 29 days away from witnessing the film and hence we can expect the team to release the rest of the songs and trailer very soon. Suriya has produced this film under his banner of 2D Entertainment, in association with Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment. Veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu has played an important role in Soorarai Pottru which also features Aparna Balamurali, Karunaas, Urvashi, Vivek Prasanna, Arjun Nandakumar in the star cast. The film is loosely based on the real life incidents of Air Deccan founder, Captain GR Gopinath.

In a recent interaction with popular film journalist Rajeev Masand, Sudha shared her opinion about Soorarai Pottru releasing on OTT platforms. She said that Suriya, the actor, is definitely not happy with this release. Sudha told, “What do you do when a producer has to pay an ‘x’ amount as the interest every month? You can’t just sit there and say like, ‘I want the film to come in theatres’. I mean, it’s pointless. There are huge films releasing in theatres today without the audiences and we don’t really know when the Tamil Nadu theatres are going to open. We do not know when the theatrical world will come back to its own. We are also not sure when the vaccine is coming.

Also, I don’t think people should go to the theatre and sit there, flocking in hordes. At a time like this, this is the only way out. I am not happy, Suriya the actor is not happy but what do you do. Why I am not happy is not because of the reach. It is because of the theatrical experience with thousands of fans. You have got moments plugged in for them,”.
