It is widely known that domestic violence & abuse is something that rears its ugly head more often than is required. However, latest reports state that it has increased multifold during the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus lockdown. In recent times, one of the most high-profile domestic abuse cases that hit the headlines was the case of a high ranking IPS officer who was caught on video, abusing his wife. This video from Madhya Pradesh, went viral online and there was a public outcry demanding that justice be meted out, irrespective of the perpetrator's official ranking. It looks like the Madhya Pradesh government has paid heed to the demands for justice!

It has come to light that the MP government has removed its Directorate of Public Prosecution in-charge Special DG Purushottam Sharma, who is the officer who was caught assaulting his wife, in the video that went viral! Latest reports state that Sharma has been suspended and transferred. The state Home Department issued orders to remove Sharma from his post with imediate effect. He has also been directed to report to the Home Department at the State Secretariat. The MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra has also assured that he would look into the matter, even though he came to know of this issue through the media. MP's State Women's Commission Chairperson Shobha Oza has demanded that the government take adequate action against Sharma and added that the Commission would take suo moto cognisance of this incident.

Speculations are that Purushottam Sharma and his wife had been having a strained relationship for years and that she had recently caught his infidelity red-handed while he was at a journalist's house, with whom he has been accused of having an extra-marital relationship with. However, Sharma has refuted these rumours stating that they are false and has also accused his wife of damaging his family's reputation and alleged that she had attacked him with a knife. He has also stated that his relationship with his wife has been for over 32 years and that any issues between them were just that and added that his wife was happy with all the luxury he had been providing. Sharma also stated that if his wife had been upset with him for long, she would have left him by now! However, Sharma's son has also joined his mother in accusing his father of misdemeanour and it is yet to be clear as to who is in the wrong. The journalist in question has also filed a case against Sharma's wife of bringing disrepute to her name and stated that Sharma is like a father-figure to her and only behaved as such.
