The one hour thriller film Visaaranai, produced by the Maari boy Dhanush has set an International record! The film, which is based on a book titled 'Lock Up' written by an auto driver named Chandrakumar, which deals with the brutality of police investigation was selected to be screened at the 72nd International Film Festival of Venice. To the delight of Indian movie buffs, the film has won an award under the prestigious Amnesty International Italy’s Cinema for Human Rights. In fact, Visaaranai becomes the first Indian film to win an award at the Venice International Film Festival.

”Many other films in the competition had not dealt with the various aspects of human rights with sensitivity and originality. But Visaaranai taken from the experience of a survivor, now an activist on Human rights, prevailed over the others," said a spokesperson of Amnesty International Italy.
