Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi's Laabam will hit the screens on September 9 and the makers made the official announcement regarding the same, this evening (August 25). Laabam is one of the first big league Tamil films to come up with the release date announcement after the reopening of theatres and it will be interesting to see how the film fares at the box office. Provided that the film earns positive reviews from its initial shows, the film is sure to perform well. Vinayakar Chathurthi falls on September 10 and it looks like the makers of Laabam have decided to make use of the festive weekend.

The theatres in Tamil Nadu reopened this week with 50% occupancy and Laabam will be one of the first big league films to hit the screens. Laabam is directed by late filmmaker SP Jhananathan, who is known for making movies like Iyarkai, Ee, Peranmai, and Purampokku. It is unfortunate that Jhananathan is not alive to witness the release of his film, but the response that the film gets from the audience will make the team of Laabam happy. Laabam features Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, while Jagapathi Babu will be seen playing the antagonist.

Produced by Arumugakumar's 7Cs Entertainment in association with Vijay Sethupathi Productions, the film's star cast also includes Ramesh Thilak, Kalaiyarasan, Sai Dhansika, Daniel Annie Pope, Nithish Veera, Marimuthu, and others. The film has music composed by D Imman and cinematography handled by Ramji. Post the theatrical run, Laabam will stream on the Netflix OTT platform for the worldwide audience.. The trailer of the film which released a few months before, opened to a good reception from the fans. It looks like Laabam will be a strong content-driven film and we can expect Jhananthan's political and social ideologies to be reflected in the film.
