One of the biggest hits in 'Thalapathy' Vijay's career, the 2017 box office blockbuster, Mersal, directed by Atlee was produced under the Thenandal Studio Limited banner and featured electrifying music by Academy Award-winning composer. TSL led by Murali Ramasamy and Hema Rukmani was already a reputed Tamil film production and distribution banner, with Mersal as well turning out to be a grand success for them. Murali Ramasamy or Thenandal Murali as he is fondly called, incidentally was elected as the President of the Tamil Film Producers Council last year, after coming on top of T. Rajendar during the body elections. That said, it is now being reported that Thenandal Murali Ramasamy had suffered a minor heart attack on Tuesday in Chennai and has been admitted to a private hospital. He is said to be undergoing treatment and will be making a recovery soon.

Murali Ramasamy along with Hema Rukmani enjoyed their biggest success in the form of Vijay's Mersal, which saw the superstar play triple roles for the first time in his career. The action thriller, which revolved around medical crimes, featured an ensemble cast among whom included names like S. J. Suryah as the antagonist, followed by Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Akkineni and Nithya Menen as the female leads, with 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala, 'Naan Kadavul' Rajendran appearing in supporting roles. Mersal continues to be well-remembered by fans, who praise the film for its performances, action and the music by 'Isaipuyal' A. R. Rahman, whose songs, especially the 'Aalaporaan Thamizhan' track stayed at the top of the charts for almost a year after its release.
