Veteran Tamil actor and producer G Ramachandran (more popularly known as GR), passed away during the early hours of Tuesday, June 2. According to an official statement, G Ramachandran was 73 years old when he breathed his last. He was reportedly suffering from health issues for the last few days. Earlier today, he failed to respond to the medical treatment and the Doctors declared him dead. It can be noted that his wife, RP Poorani (who is also a producer), passed away a few weeks before, due to a cardiac arrest. Several notable personalities from the film industry are mourning the death of producer and actor G Ramachandran and at this moment, Galatta Media expresses heartfelt condolences to his family members.

Ramachandran's final rites and cremation will take place today evening around 4.30 PM at his farm house in Mangadu, Chennai. GR is survived by his two sons, Sivakumar and Sami Kumar.

For the uninformed, G Ramachandran (aka) GR has acted in several notable movies including Kalathur Kannamma (Kamal Haasan's debut film), Naattupura Paattu, Ettupatti Rasa, Veera Thaalaattu, Rajathi Raja, Manu Needhi, etc. He has also acted in quite a few Kannada films, as well. As a producer, GR bankrolled the Sathyaraj - Prathyusha starrer, Sound Party (2004), directed by Aarthi Kumar. The film was a remake of the Malayalam film, Kottaram Veettile Apputtan.

GR also produced Murali's Manu Needhi, which was directed by actor Thambi Ramaiah. Manu Needhi received fairly positive reviews from the audience during the time of its release. GR also produced Murali's Enga Raasi Nalla Raasi, which bombed at the box office. G Ramachandran produced these movies under the banner of GR Gold Films. 2021 is also turning out to be a dark year for Tamil cinema with the passing away of several notable film personalities and let us hope for the situation to get better in the coming weeks.
