American reality TV star and actress Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her rapper husband Kanye West, according to latest reports. Christy Welder, a representative for Kardashian West, confirmed the news of the couple filing for divorce, while adding that Kardashian had no additional comment. As per the divorce filing, Kanye and Kim sought joint custody of their four children and have cited "irreconcilable differences" to be the reason for them splitting up. Furthermore, it also cites a prenuptial agreement regarding their assets.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West married in a grand royal wedding in Italy in 2014 and have been living apart for a while now. It is being stated that West has been living at their home in Wyoming, while Kardashian is with their children at their California home. The couple had first met in the early 2000s, but had gotten involved romantically only years later. In an interview by West for Vogue Arabia, Kardashian was asked about their first meeting. "This was before you released your first album and you were known as a music producer. I was really shy. You thought I was (singer) Brandy's assistant, which I wasn't," Kim Kardashian had recalled. "Ever since you said that, it's everywhere ... like 'Kim is Brandy's assistant.' I was her friend and stylist. (laughs). I thought you were attractive, nice, very charming, really funny, powerful -- I was in awe of you, but I was really shy, quiet, and a little nervous, to be honest."

Prior to them becoming a couple, both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had high-profile relationships. They went public with their relationship in 2012 as West proposed to Kardashian by renting a sports stadium, including hiring an orchestra, with her family watching the proceedings in surprise. West's proposal to Kardashian went on to be documented, which was later shared on the family's popular E! reality series, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The couple have four children together. Their first daughter North was born in 2013, with their first son, Saint, following suit in 2015. They were then blessed with their second daughter, Chicago, in 2018, and another son, Psalm, in 2019.

Both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have stood with each other during tough times, including when the former was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in 2016 during a home invasion. West, in 2018, posted a tweet complimenting Kardashian, and said, "Gratitude and happiness best describe what my wife means to me. I'm deeply grateful and purely happy." Over the years, Kardashian has on a number of occasions defended West over his struggles with bipolar disorder, including the controversy surrounding his tweets and political statements. Kardashian had last summer made an appeal to the public via a social media post. She wrote, "I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions."
