Popular Tamil film producer Salem A Chandrasekaran passed away on May 10 due to Covid-19 complications. According to a statement, the producer breathed his last around 7 PM on May 10. He was tested positive for Covid 19, a few weeks back, and was under treatment for the same. Last night, he failed to respond to the medicines and the Doctors declared him to be dead. Salem Chandrasekaran will be best remembered as the producer of the blockbuster hit Tamil film, Ghajini which featured Suriya and Asin in the lead roles. Ghajini gave a massive breakthrough for Suriya, director AR Murugadoss, and everyone else who worked in the film.

Salem Chandrasekaran produced the film under the banner of Sri Saravanaa Creations. Harris Jayaraj who worked as the music composer of Ghajini, took to his official Twitter page to mourn the demise of producer Salem Chandrasekaran. Harris Jayaraj tweeted, "R I P Mr Chandrasekar (Producer of Gazini). Thank you for the movie which can't be forgotten". Salem Chandrasekaran made his debut as a producer with the Dhanush starrer Sullan, directed by Ramana. Sullan which opened to mixed to negative reviews from the audience, featured Sindhu Tolani as the female lead. He also produced Bharath's February 14 and Vijayakanth's Sabari.

Salem A Chandrasekaran's last film as a producer was Killadi which released in 2015. Killadi featured Bharath and Nila (Meera Chopra) in the lead roles and it was directed by A Venkatesh. Before venturing into film production, Salem Chandrasekaran was a renowned film distributor and theatre exhibitor. His demise has now come as a big disappointment and shocker for the Tamil film fraternity.
