The long-awaited Friends reunion special has finally gotten its streaming premiere date with HBO Max making the grand announcement on Thursday. Surprising fans world over by dropping a short promo teaser, HBO Max has announced that Friends: The Reunion will debut on May 27. The reunion special will debut on the one year anniversary of the launch of HBO Max and exactly a year after it was originally planned to premiere. Delayed a number of times owing to the production shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Friends: The Reunion was originally scheduled to be filmed in February 2020, but was only able to proceed forward in April. 

Friends: The Reunion will see Friends stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer returning to the original iconic soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank to celebrate the show. According to reports, each of the six stars have received up to $2.5 million for their participation in the special. The reunion will also see actors who appeared in recurring roles on Friends among whom include Elliott Gould, Larry Hankin, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, Thomas Lennon, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon, with special guest stars like David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga,  Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling and Malala Yousafzai as well confirmed to make appearances. 

The special has been directed by Ben Winston, who also executive produces along with Friends executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane, and will hail from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon, Fulwell 73 Productions and Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions. Apart from appearing in the special, Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer are also executive producers, with Emma Conway, James Longman and Stacey Thomas-Muir as co-executive producers. Friends moved from Netflix to HBO Max in 2020, with the deal for the rights to all 10 seasons of the original series reported to have cost WarnerMedia over $400 million.
