Faced lots of problems marketing film: Arun Vaidyanathan

Child sex abuse takes place everywhere but no one wants to talk about it, said Arun Vaidyanathan, director of the Tamil film Achamundu Achamundu, an entry into the feature film category of the Indian Panorama Section of the ongoing IFFI.

Addressing the media, the young director said that the movie is his first full length feature film, which has Prasanna, Sneha, John Shea and the child artiste Akshaya in the lead. "Though the duration of the film is 90 minutes, dialogues use up only 40 minutes of the film time, making the production a visual work with universal appeal," he said, pointing out that the thrilling aspect of the film has made it a psychological thriller.

Shot in locations in New York and New Jersey in a period of 30 days, Achamundu... is also the first Indian film to be shot on Red One Camera. "The film shot on this high definition camera had the content stored on the hard drive. We opted for the new technology as I wanted vibrant colours for the beginning turning gloomy as the film progressed. The Red One camera helped us to cut the cost of shooting besides helping us during the shooting with the child artiste, who might have otherwise needed a larger number of retakes."

Arun said that the sound of the film was recorded live, instead of dubbing, to maintain the spontaneity in acting. "Though the film had a commercial release in Chennai and was appreciated at the Shanghai and Cairo festivals as well at the IFFI, it has faced a lot of problems in the marketing area," he lamented.

Producers Asma Hashmi and Ananth Govindan said that Arun had made a detailed study with the hard bound script ready before the shooting began.
