Suman joining Congress?

Popular South Indian actor Suman's unanticipated meeting with Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily at the Lakeview Guest House in Hyderabad on Sunday triggered speculations that he would soon kickstart his second innings in politics by joining the Congress.

However, after the 15-minute meeting, the actor told reporters that he had come to congratulate the Minister on his election to the Lok Sabha from Mangalore. While stating that he was impressed by the Congress’ performance, including welfare and development works in the State, Suman clarified that he had no intention to join the party now. But he would consider supporting it if party leaders felt his services were needed in the South.

In 1999, Suman had expressed his interest in politics by supporting the Telugu Desam Party of then Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, and thenjoined BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in 2004 along with his supporters.

Asked about the political entry of actors Chiranjeevi and Jayasudha, he said politics was a different ball game. "Chiranjeevi is a popular actor with a lot of image in the film industry. But politics is different. We cannot club both," he quipped. He praised Jayasudha for winning her maiden election. On MP Vijayashanti facing rough weather in the TRS, he said sometimes the timing of decisions by leaders did cause worry.
